Pride is a vibrant, colourful celebration that brings everyone together, and for Pride Birmingham, we want to create an unforgettable experience that showcases Shelter and HSBC's support for the LGBTQ+ community. These ideas aligned with the partnership slogan "Home is a place of Pride".
We could invite people to make handprints using bright Pride colours on a white cardboard house. This fun activity will be a powerful statement against discrimination, demonstrating that everyone deserves a welcoming home, no matter who they love.
Depending on the space we have, we could even let people step inside the house and cover the walls, floors, and furniture with their handprints too! To make it even more exciting, we’ll use paint that stays on their hands for a few hours, letting them show their support throughout the day. Plus, we’ll have volunteers with megaphones encouraging everyone to ‘Raise Your Hands’ in a fun call-and-response!
Alternatively, we could have a fabulous house party that truly embodies the spirit of Pride! Picture a funky, colourful room shaped like a little house, sending the clear message that home is for everyone and that no one should be denied a home because of their Pride.
The outside will be bursting with colour, lights, and glam, while inside, we’ll create an interactive wonderland filled with props, a dazzling disco ball, and, of course, the best Pride anthems pumping to get everyone dancing! We could even have a fabulous drag queen outside to lure people in. In this space, everyone is welcome to let their hair down and have a blast!
To make it even more special, we could partner with local and queer artists to transform the inside walls into a vibrant, Instagrammable masterpiece. We could set up a photobooth and have photographers snapping away to capture all the fun, giving participants the chance to take home memories or share their joy on social media.
